About Volocal

Volocal is a fully local voice AI assistant for iOS. All processing -- speech-to-text, language model inference, and text-to-speech -- happens entirely on your device. No cloud services, no API keys, and no internet connection required after the initial model download.

Frequently Asked Questions

What devices are supported?

Volocal requires iOS 17 or later running on a physical iPhone with a Neural Engine. It is not supported on the iOS Simulator or older devices that lack a Neural Engine.

How much storage space does Volocal need?

The app itself is small, but the AI models require approximately 2.3 GB of storage. These are downloaded once during initial setup. Make sure you have enough free space before starting the download.

Does Volocal work offline?

Yes. After the initial model download, Volocal works entirely offline. No internet connection is needed to use any of its features.

How do I reset or re-download the models?

To reset the models, delete and reinstall the app. This will clear all downloaded models and allow you to download them fresh on next launch. Alternatively, you can go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage > Volocal and use "Offload App" to remove the app while keeping the option to reinstall, or "Delete App" for a full reset.

The app is not responding or is very slow. What should I do?

On-device AI inference is resource-intensive. Try closing other apps to free up memory, then restart Volocal. If the problem persists, try restarting your iPhone.
